It is my first full day here on Koh Samui and I already love it. My AirBnb host, Stephanie, is fantastic. We instantly bonded over a love of baby sharks and rambutans, and she mapped out a list of all the must-sees on the island for the average laid-back waterbaby like myself, avoiding any and all party scenes associated with Thailand.
Chawang Noi Beach
Chawang Noi beach is just south of Chaweng beach, which is the most popular beach on the island, made famous by its raging party scene. Chaweng Noi on the other hand, is peaceful and gorgeous, with beautiful rock formations on either end.
Fishermans Villiage, Bophut
I attempted to go to the Fishermans Village last night but was traffic shy and uneasy about crossing the bustling traffic. Precursor being that the roads here are absolutely insane. There is no form of traffic control whatsoever, and there is no sidewalks. So, motorbikes and cars are going all over the place, on any side of the road that they please, and just to add to the chaos, they have the right-of-way. Leaving us mere mortals to run as fast as possible at the mere glimpse of a break in the traffic.
However, I was feeling brave today and managed to get there in one piece. I loved the Fishermans Villiage. It is a walking village filled back to back with street merchants selling homemade textiles, jewelry, you name it, as well as restaurants and food vendors. I had a 5$ heaping plate of Pad Thai that was AMAZING. Needless to say, I am not coming home. (JK mom)
