Maenam Beach was very beautiful. It is on the northern coast of the island, and is very quiet. The resorts on the beach are much more modest and sparing allowing you to get away from any tourists very easily and score your own spot on the sand. The view is expansive, and you can see all the way to Koh Phanang, the neighboring island. There is not much happening as far as reefs go, until you get to the outer corners of the beach. The rocky barrier produces the perfect habitat for tiny reefs bustling with little fish and anemones. On the edge of the beach lived a few monkeys as well, seemingly the pets of one of the locals, just out for a walk on the beach. Every day I see locals with exotic pets, they charge tourists for taking photos with them. I managed to snag this photo without any charge. All monkeys and elephants that live here on Koh Samui are imported, and are not treated humanely.
